Everything About Hydraulic System’s Preventive Maintenance

Many companies spend resources to train their maintenance teams for aptly troubleshooting hydraulic equipment.  If we focus on averting hydraulic system failures, then a less amount of money and time is required to troubleshoot. In general, many accept hydraulic failures as the inevitable. We should invest resources to root out system failures. Shifting the focus to proactive from reactive maintenance is required. A proactive maintenance approach is needed to avoid unscheduled system failures.

Fewer periodical maintenance schedules are the key reason for hydraulic equipment’s failure. For example, if a hydraulic power pack is not maintained regularly, then you can expect the entire system to crumble. It is necessary for well-defined maintenance techniques to be implemented. The best maintenance technique for any hydraulic system or component is Preventive Maintenance (PM). More and more preventive maintenance programs help make equipment reliable.

Preventive maintenance

Preventive Maintenance is, by far, the most simple sustenance program for any type of hydraulic machinery. PM must be done religiously to make it a result-oriented activity. Most organisations have excellent PM procedures in place. Such procedures help in proper execution of each and every step performed by a hydraulic machine. For developing a high-quality PM program, a company should follow the below mentioned steps.

Identify the system’s operating conditions.

  • Does the machinery operate 24×7?
  • Does the system operate at the highest pressure as well s flow?
  • Is the machine located in a humid, dirty environment?

Quiz your equipment manufacturer about the machine’s PM requirements.

What operating parameters are defined by the equipment manufacturer? The operating parameters must be in confirmation to the hydraulic liquid ISO particulate.

What operating parameter does hydraulic cartridge valves manufacturer define for the equipment’s PM program?

What parameters are defined by the equipment’s filter manufacturer to set up a PM program?

Last, try to gather the equipment’s history for setting up a reliable PM program.

For having the best preventive maintenance procedure, you must have a thorough understanding of your equipment.

Seven Mistakes Done While Working With Hydraulic Equipment

Maintenance is a critical element to ensure any machine’s longevity. Even the most seasoned hydraulic machinery operators can botch it up, if they tend to overlook some critical factors. While working with hydraulic equipment, the user has to keep in mind some points.   Read on to discover the mistakes that can be sometimes committed by even an experienced user.

Forgetting to change the filters

Most experts change the oil filters according to a schedule. However, it is advisable to check the filters manually before changing. When the hydraulic filters are changed according to a strict schedule, then chances are abundant that the operator might end up either under utilising or overusing them. It is better to check the filter every now and then to know the level of dirt clogging it.

Whenever, the operator notices the density of dirt is heavy then it becomes advisable to change the filters. If done otherwise, the dirt will pass through the filter and jeopardize the performance of the equipment.

Forgetting to change the oil

Changing the hydraulic oil depends upon two factors:-

  1.    Reduction in the additive package
  2.    Debasement of the base oil

Both these factors depend upon the hours of work done by the machinery. However, replacing the oil squarely on the basis of hours of service rendered by the equipment is incorrect. Proper oil analysis must be done before throwing the oil tin in the trash barrel.

Running hot

High temperature kills even the most advanced hydraulic machines. The most affected components of a hydraulic machine – when overused – include double acting hydraulic cylinder, Hydraulic AC&DC Power Pack, Piston, hoses, pumps, seals and oil itself.

Proper know how of the technology is evident for users before beginning to work with a hydraulic system. Also, the knowledge of operating as well as maintenance is necessary for every hydraulic machine operator.
