Use clean oil always for filling the components

The use of the finest oil becomes more important if you have a large-diameter, high-pressure hydraulic motor, cylinder or pump. Of course, nobody would like an expensive component to be out of kilter much before the first year of servicing. Therefore, it’s necessary to fill components using clean hydraulic fluid. However, filling components with oil isn’t a cakewalk. You’ve to do a lot of groundwork and exercise great cautions.

Protecting exposed metal parts

It’s apt to smear the innards of a hydraulic cylinder (preferably eyes, bearings and clevis bushes) with grease. The drive shafts of motors as well as pumps must be wrapped using an oil-impregnated tape. Before using such tapes or similar products, you should ensure that the drive shafts are completely retracted. If, however, oil-impregnated tape is applied upon drive shafts or cylinder rods when they’re not retracted, then irrevocable damage can happen.
